In 1998, several medium-rise buildings, mostly for office use, were proposed, and a local police station was built. In 1996, the Abu Dhabi Seaports Authority announced a Dh2.4 billion development plan for the area, which included the construction of a new port in Musaffah. As a result, the bridge underwent significant restoration work in the 1990s, generating new interest in developing Musaffah as an industrial center. ![]() An engineering assessment conducted in 1994 revealed that the concrete in the bridge was not sustainable and required replacement. Growth was facilitated by the construction of the 480-meter-long Musaffah Bridge, a six-lane bridge that connected the island of Abu Dhabi to the mainland, following investment from the Korean company Dongah. According to a report, there was strong local support for a pipe plant proposal in the area. A 1980 MEED report described Musaffah as "a maze of roads and half-completed buildings" where industrial operations primarily consisted of workshops, service, and maintenance facilities. In the 1970s, Musaffah was a small industrial area.
